Everything Rumi does

Twelve things, built to be used daily rather than admired once. Below, what each one actually does.

Prayer times & reminders

Accurate times for your location, a streak that counts the prayers you've kept, and reminders you can tune per prayer.

Ask Rumi

An assistant for the questions that come up mid-day. It answers in your language and shows what the answer rests on.

Is it halal?

Point the camera at an ingredients label. Rumi flags gelatine, E-codes and anything doubtful, and says why.

Qur'an reader

All 114 surahs with Arabic, transliteration and translation. Download a reciter to read and listen offline.

Qibla compass

A compass that settles on the direction of the Kaaba, with the bearing in degrees for when you want to check it.

Digital tasbih

A counter with haptics and goals, eight bead sets to choose from, and a matching complication on the Watch.

Du'a collection

Supplications for morning, evening, travel, illness and worry — Arabic, transliteration and meaning together.

Ramadan companion

Suhoor and iftar times, the imsakiye for the whole month, a progress ring, and fasts logged day by day.

Widgets & Live Activities

Prayer times, the verse of the day, the daily du'a and the tasbih on the Home Screen, Lock Screen and in Control Centre.

Hijri calendar

The Islamic date next to the Gregorian one, the holy nights marked, and your Hijri birthday worked out.

Fasting & qada

Mark today's fast kept or missed, keep the count of what's owed, and watch the backlog come down.

Learning

The 99 names, a hadith each day, flashcards with a quiz, a reading plan, zakat maths and a mosque finder.

In detail

Prayer times & reminders

Rumi computes the five prayers on the device from your coordinates, using the calculation profile your country's own authority publishes. Reminders can be set from 0 to 30 minutes before each prayer, and any single prayer can be silenced from the bell on its row without touching the others. A Live Activity counts down on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and a streak keeps a quiet record of the prayers you've kept.

  • Fourteen calculation methods; the right one chosen for you by country
  • Hanafi, Shafi'i, Maliki and Hanbali Asr calculation
  • Per-prayer manual offsets for when your local mosque runs a minute off

Ask Rumi

The assistant answers in the language you are reading in and replies in cards: a verse comes as a verse card with the Arabic and the translation, a how-to comes as numbered steps, prayer times come as the real times for your location. Verses, hadiths and times are read from the app's own data rather than generated, so a reference is never invented. Conversations are grouped by topic and stay on your device.

  • Answers cite the surah and ayah, or the hadith collection
  • Ask about a verse from inside the reader and keep your place
  • Topics, history and deletion all under your control

Is it halal?

Photograph an ingredients list and Rumi reads it. Gelatine, rennet, carmine, alcohol-derived flavourings and the E-codes that hide them are flagged, each with the reason and a confidence level, plus alternatives where there is an obvious one. Scans are kept in a history so you can check the same product later without rescanning.

  • E-code detection with the animal- or plant-origin question spelled out
  • A confidence level rather than a bare yes or no
  • Scan history, so the weekly shop gets faster

Qur'an reader

All 114 surahs, with the Arabic, a transliteration for those still learning the script, and a translation in your language. Bookmarks, a reading plan and per-surah progress keep the place. A reciter can be downloaded for offline listening, ayah by ayah, and any verse can be sent to the assistant if you want it explained.

  • Arabic, transliteration and translation on one line
  • Downloadable recitation for reading with no network
  • Bookmarks, reading plan and progress per surah

Qibla compass

A compass that resolves to the direction of the Kaaba from wherever you are, with the bearing in degrees underneath so you can sanity-check it against anything else. It uses the device's magnetometer, which means the usual advice applies: step away from metal and recalibrate if the needle wanders.

  • Bearing in degrees alongside the needle
  • Works from a manually chosen city if you'd rather not share location
  • Calibration prompt when the magnetometer needs it

Digital tasbih

A counter that takes a tap anywhere on the screen, with a haptic on each bead and a stronger one when you reach the goal. Eight bead materials to choose between, per-dhikr goals, and a record of what you counted and when. The Watch app carries its own counter, and a widget keeps the count one tap from the Home Screen.

  • Goals of 33, 99 or any number you set
  • Haptic feedback on every count and at the target
  • Counts shared between iPhone, Watch and widget

Du'a collection

Supplications grouped by when you'd reach for them — morning and evening, before and after eating, travel, distress, illness, rain, entering a mosque. Each shows the Arabic, a transliteration and the meaning in your language, with the source given. A widget puts one on the Home Screen each day.

  • Categorised by occasion rather than listed alphabetically
  • Arabic, transliteration and meaning together
  • Daily du'a widget, and 'ask Rumi' on any of them

Ramadan companion

Through Ramadan the home screen changes shape: suhoor and iftar times move to the top with a countdown, a ring fills as the month goes on, and the whole imsakiye is a tap away. Fasts are logged day by day, and what you owe from previous years has its own count.

  • Suhoor and iftar countdowns, and the month's imsakiye
  • Day-by-day fasting log with the month's progress
  • A Ramadan widget for the Home and Lock Screens

Widgets & Live Activities

Prayer times in small, medium and large; the next prayer alone; the verse of the day; the daily du'a; a name of Allah; the tasbih counter; Ramadan progress. Lock Screen widgets and Control Centre controls too, plus the Live Activity that runs down to the next prayer. If you've never added one, the app has a step-by-step guide.

  • Home Screen, Lock Screen and Control Centre
  • Live Activity and Dynamic Island countdown
  • A built-in guide for adding them

Hijri calendar

The Hijri date sits beside the Gregorian one everywhere it matters, and the calendar marks the nights people plan around — Ramadan, the Eids, Ashura, Mawlid, Laylat al-Qadr, the three months. Your Hijri birthday is worked out from your Gregorian one, which is the sort of thing nobody knows offhand.

  • Holy nights and months marked ahead of time
  • Hijri birthday calculated from your own date
  • Hijri date shown alongside prayer times

Fasting & qada

A yes or no each day, and the last seven days visible at a glance. Fasts owed from before — qada — are counted separately, so the backlog is a number you can watch come down rather than something you half-remember.

  • One tap a day, with the week visible
  • A separate qada count for fasts owed
  • Works for Ramadan and for voluntary fasts

Learning

The 99 names with their meanings; a hadith each morning with its collection named; flashcards that quiz you and keep score; a reading plan that paces the Qur'an; a zakat calculator that does the nisab arithmetic; a mosque finder; wallpapers; and a name list for parents choosing one.

  • Asma-ul Husna, hadith of the day, flashcards and quizzes
  • Zakat calculator and reading plan
  • Mosque finder, wallpapers, and Muslim baby names

Platform

  • iPhone and iPad, iOS 16.1 or later, with an iPad layout rather than a stretched phone one
  • Apple Watch app for prayer times and tasbih, kept in step with the phone
  • Built natively in SwiftUI — it opens instantly and behaves like the rest of the system

The next prayer is already on its way.
